WHY MARRY?

1. Support.

Genesis 2:15-20

“And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”

The first thing God gave Adam was not a wife, He gave him a job. He understood that purpose has to precede marriage, hence, He gave Adam a job. Having watched Adam tend, cater for the animals, name them, feed them and nurture them, He noticed that Adam needed help. His life’s vision needed support, so God brought him a help that is meet- suitable and adaptable to him.

As a man, if you do not have some clarity or definition for your life, the last thing you need is a relationship. If you do get into a relationship, chances that you will pick wrong is very high. Your purpose determines what you need, if you do not know what you are living for (purpose), you cannot know how a woman can suit or adapt to it. Do not choose a partner for life without first getting a purpose for life. Once you know what you are called to do, choosing a spouse becomes easier.

As a woman, your role as a wife is to help. You are an ordained helper.
If you marry a man and nothing changes in him, his life still remains the same then you should question your ‘helping’

Proverbs 12:4

“A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband.”

As a woman make sure you ask questions. It doesn’t matter what he has it who he is, ask questions.
Make sure he has a vision for his life, a job and clarity on why he wants to get married. If you can get this, your relationship will be a lot simpler to navigate.
As a woman you must be able to adapt to the man that you marry. You may
not be suitable and adaptable to every man but you must be suitable and
adaptable to the man you intend to marry. Adaptability and Suitability
in marriage means, some situations will arise and you must be willing to
bend. You must be willing to adjust, you must be willing to be the woman
your husband wants you to be at every point in time. The measure of your
success as a wife is not measured by how many children you bear but how
much of his dreams you are able to birth and how much support and help
you give him to fulfill God’s purpose for his life.

2. Compatibility

There is so much pressure to get married these days that core things are been forgotten. Companionship is such a core factor in marriage.

Ecclesiastes 4:11

“Again if two lie together, then they have heat. How can one be warm
alone.”

Warmth in the scripture means companionship and friendship. Do not marry just for a title or for a ring. Similarly, do not marry just anyone, marry your friend. When you marry your friend, you won’t even know you are married. You marriage will be a lifetime continuation of your friendship.

The thing about friendship is, it starts before marriage and will exist after marriage. Friendship is so important. The sex will go, the romance will go but if the friendship is there the marriage can
last.

Proverbs 18:24

“There are friends who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.”

Your life should be so intertwined that no one can untwine it.

3. Compliment each other.

All the things that God didn’t put in a man, He packaged it and put it in a woman. Men for instance are generally work oriented, their lives center around their work. God knowing this made a woman family oriented to compliment the needs of the home. Most men can focus on just one thing per time but a woman has the ability to spread her attention
across many things.

Ecclesiastes 4:9

“Two are better than one because they have a good sucess, if they fall,
the one shall lift up the other, but woe to him who is alone for he has
no one to lift him up.”

In God’s original plan, He wired men and women differently for a purpose. His intent was that the man’s strength will make up for the woman’s weaknesses and the woman’s strength will make up for the man’s weaknesses. Complimenting each other is a major part of marriage.

4. Raising a godly seed.

Mal 2:15-16

“Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are
his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard
your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth.”

God has a stake in marriage. Marriage God’s way is not just for the husband or wife, God has a say in that marriage and His greatest need is for a godly seed to be raised in that home.
When a man and a woman comes together, their joining should be a
representation of God. The love of the mother for instance shows the unconditional love of God while the love of the father shows the discipline side of God. If a child grows up with only the mother, tendencies that he will be spoilt will be very high because of the mothers
sentimental nature. Likewise, if a child grows up with just the father, tendencies that he might be unemotional about life will be high because of the father’s disciplined and strict nature.

The balance of a man and a woman fully represents who God is and this is
what God wants, that the union of a godly man and godly woman laid on the foundation of the word will spring up a godly seed that will walk in the statutes and ordinances of the word.
